LUGAR Boswell Thistle boss George Wallace has hailed his shock troops for putting in a "brilliant" performance to earn a spot in the Scottish Junior Cup last 16.
The Jaggy Bunnets were in fine form as they dispatched of higher division opposition for the second consecutive round in the competition by defeating Larkhall Thistle 4-2 at Rosebank Park.
Goals from Jack Marks and Conan Mackin saw the home side race into a two goal league before being pegged back on the stroke of half-time.
However, Mackin added his second before Ewan McIver put Thistle three ahead, meaning a late strike for the visitors was nothing more than a consolation goal for the visitors.
Boss George Wallace was left delighted by the result and said his side's 'underdog' tag helped fuel their performance.
He commented: “They’ve (Larkhall) came down and thought it was going to be easier than it was – and we’ve turned them over.
“I didn’t really need to fuel the boys up for the game because of the way the guys turned up.
“I heard one of their players say ‘let’s get this done by half-time and get up the road’.”
The Rosebank Park manager was also quick to praise his players for their 'perfect' performance.
Wallace added: “I took a gamble and went 4-3-3, because I thought they would struggle to deal with the front three – which everyone has this season.
“There wasn’t one boy who wasn’t at least an eight out of ten all game, even the subs were brilliant.
“Every single one of the boys were brilliant, they played exactly the way I wanted them to play.
“We took our chances, we didn’t make any mistakes, everything just went well.”
The Jaggy Bunnets' reward for their victory is another home tie in the last 16, with the East Ayrshire outfit to host Premier Division side Benburb on December 14.
It will be another tough task but Wallace says his side will relish the opportunity.
He continued: “Anyone at home I fancy us with a chance. Benburb are obviously a really good team but the only advantage I hope is that it’s a horrible wet day and they are used to playing on an AstroTurf.
“It was good getting a decent crowd there as well, this is what happens when you play against better teams. We want to be able to do that every week.
“We can mix it with the better teams, it’s just our consistency in the league, we need to do it every week.
“But I’m happy to keep us underdogs against everybody, that suits me, no one knows what’s coming.”
