Saltcoats Victoria boss Stevie Wilson hailed his side's hunger and desire after snatching three points at Eglinton with nine men. 

It was Vic's first win in the Fourth Division since the opening weekend of the season, after coming from behind to claim a 2-1 victory in Kilwinning. 

Despite conceding another early goal, Saltcoats rallied and strikes from Euan Anderson and Adam Kamara saw them claim an important win. 

Boss Stevie said: "We've been playing well in patches but have never managed to sustain it, and we haven't been picking up the points we should have. 

"We've had a habit of conceding early sloppy goals and once again we were down within six minutes in this one.

"However I can't fault the attitude, hunger and desire of the players who worked so hard to get back into the game. 

"We had two 18-year-olds in the midfield and another one at right-back, and they gave us good energy, which we needed."

Despite the victory, Stevie has taken aim at the referee, who he labelled "card happy" after two Vics players were handed their marching orders late on. 

He explained: "Some of the decision's on Saturday were pretty poor. It wasn't a dirty or nasty game, but he was very card happy. 

"I had a wee chat with him at half time and I didn't like his attitude. In terms of the sending offs, one was for a collision that nobody saw, and another was for time-wasting which was really harsh. 

"We just had to dig in, and then to go up with park and score a winner was great to finish with three points. 

"Over the course of the game, they probably had more possession, but I thought with our work off the ball we just edged it."

Vics will not return to league action until the end of September, with a tough cup game against Musselburgh in the South Region Challenge Cup this weekend.

Stevie added: "Musselburgh are doing well this season, and are currently unbeaten so we'll be the underdogs.

"Saturday has given us a wee boost, with the fact we went down to nine men and still won the game. If we can put a performance in then you just never know, especially if they are a wee bit off their game.

"There's no pressure on us at all, so we'll give it a right good go."
