Kilmarnock captain Kyle Vassell says he wants to make fans proud of their club as they embark on their European adventures.

Killie take on Cercle Brugge at a sold-out Rugby Park on Thursday night in the second round of Europa League qualifying.

The striker, who hopes to kick on this season after undergoing surgery during the summer, reveals fans have been stressing the importance of the game during his weekly shop.

He said: "I was leaving yesterday and I had to drive all the way around the queue. I wanted to stop and say hello to people but i'd have been there for hours.

"Even when i'm meeting people in the supermarket, they're talking about this European run and what it means to them.

"It's about time we give the fans something to really look forward to and to be proud of the club and the town for."

The captain believes his side can turn in a good performance against the Belgians on the Rugby Park turf, to set up a winner takes all clash in Brugge next week.

Vassell added: "It's tough for teams to come here, it's tough to play here, and tough to play against us when we're at our best.

"I think the standard will be pretty similar, and it's about focussing on what we're good at."
