PLANS have been revealed for the installation of two 'hobbit-style' glamping huts on the Isle of Arran.
Named 'Arran Burrows', the proposed development from Glampitect would be based at Kelvin Edge, Whiting Bay, and aim to promote eco-friendly tourism.
The site wants to create two glamping huts, patios, secure bike storage, and landscaping with native trees and shrubs.
The new huts, collectively providing 56 square metres of non-residential leisure space, are considered temporary installations.
Each pod will have its own sustainable drainage setup and an electric vehicle charging station for guests and are designed to integrate into the landscape to minimise visual impact.
Earlier this year, Glampitect submitted similar plans to North Ayrshire Council to build pods on Northern Heights near Kildonan on the island.
However, they were withdrawn after nine objections were lodged by islanders, who said the site was "inappropriate in a residential area".
The proposal is said to align with local authority policies, aiming to protect the countryside while encouraging tourism.
Sustainable construction is an important element to the plans, as it is proposed to use reclaimed materials, permeable landscaping, and energy-efficient fixtures.
The development is also aiming to boost the area's economy by promoting local attractions, using local contractors, and creating part-time jobs.
The project will cater to tourists seeking nature-based accommodation while minimising disruption to neighbouring properties.
The site is designed for year-round use, catering to couples and small families seeking nature retreats, but will not host party groups, and quiet hours will be maintained to prevent disturbances.
A dedicated on-site manager will ensure security, respond to guest needs, and uphold site policies, including waste management and noise control.
