A FORMER South Ayrshire carer stole £25 from a woman's purse while she was looking after the cancer patient in her home in Minishant.
Kayleigh Jeffrey pleaded guilty to taking money from the now deceased woman at an address in the village between September 20 and 26 last year.
The 26-year-old was fined £420 for the "significant breach of trust" despite the "small sum".
A procurator fiscal depute told a recent hearing at Ayr Sheriff Court: "The complainer in this charge is now deceased.
"At the time of the offence she began to receive care from South Ayrshire Council after a cancer diagnosis.
"The family of the complainer realised money was being displaced and became suspicious. A camera was installed.
"The accused removed money from the complainer's purse; this happened on three different instances totalling £25."
Defence solicitor Tony Currie said: "Notwithstanding significant amendments this is still a significant matter and breach of trust.
"We have a very detailed report outlining the background which I don't wish to rehearse.
"It is also not lost on her as she has taken some time to secure some employment.
"I have to say in my dealings with Ms Jeffrey she has been very straightforward."
Sheriff Maria Kicinski said: "The value was small but it was a significant breach."
Jeffrey, of Drumdow Road, Turnberry was fined £400 reduced from £460, but including a £20 Scottish Government victim surcharge payment, totalling £420.
