A WELL-KNOWN Ayrshire dance school has achieved a 'prestigious' qualification.

Jam Street School of Dance, which has locations in Beith, Kilmarnock, Stewarton, and Fenwick, is now an SQA-approved centre.

The school can now teach the National Progression Award in Dance at SCQF Level 4, the SCQF Leadership Award Levels 5 and 6, and the National 5 Dance qualification.

A spokesperson said: "This qualification is a vital stepping stone to dance colleges, academic colleges, and universities, adding valuable UCAS points.

"The high level of training at Jam Street has received outstanding feedback from dance colleges.

"These activities not only earn them recognised SCQF awards but also help build self-confidence, self-esteem, teamwork skills, and leadership recognition."

Jam Street is now the only institution locally offering the National 5 Dance qualification, providing a 'unique opportunity' for young dancers in the area.

Their 'forward-thinking' approach has seen many of its former students achieve 'prestigious positions' worldwide, including performing at the Moulin Rouge, on cruise ships, working at Disney and pursuing teaching careers.

Current students are already working towards their leadership qualifications, assisting in classes and organising events, earning them recognised SCQF awards.

Pupils have begun their National 5 Dance studies and will sit their final written exams at The Grange Academy in Kilmarnock.

A spokesperson added: "This achievement is thanks to the incredible efforts of the teachers, the dedication of the students, and the unwavering support of parents, friends, and the community.

"Jam Street School of Dance continues to set the standard for dance education, inspiring young dancers to reach new heights and achieve their dreams.

"This opens up new pathways for students, whether they aspire to a professional dance career or seek to enhance their personal development."

Opportunities for dancers outside the school to get involved will open up in 2025, with their open days for prospective candidates planned in the new year.
