A KILMAURS pervert is awaiting sentence after he was found in possession of more than 1,000 indecent images of children.
Danny Welsh was placed on the sex offenders register for the time being after he pleaded guilty to one charge of possessing the indecent photographs or pseudo-photographs between December 18, 2022 and March 26 last year.
The 32-year-old made the admission when he appeared in the dock at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on Tuesday, October 15.
The images were found on a device belonging to Welsh when police executed a search warrant at his address on Habbieauld Road on March 28 last year, procurator fiscal depute Alasdair Millar told the court.
Officers attended at around 9.35am and found the accused within the house. The warrant was explained to him and police were able to search the property.
In doing so a hard drive belonging to Welsh was found and sent for examination.
Further analysis found there to be a total of 1,234 still indecent images contained on the device, with a further 23 videos.
Of these images, 500 were still accessible to the device user, with 13 photographs classified as category A, 15 as category B and 472 as category C.
It was clarified to the court that category A images or videos involve penetrative sexual activity, category B includes non-penetrative sexual activity and category C involves erotic posing.
Of the further 719 inaccessible image files, 11 were category A, 21 category B and 687 were classified as category C.
A total of 19 videos were still accessible on the device, two of which were category B and 17 were placed within category C.
Mr Millar told the court that analysis of the hard drive showed that the images were sourced from a "well known distributor" in Russia.
Defending, solicitor Gillian Swanney stated that reports would be required prior to sentencing.
She asked Sheriff Murdoch Mactaggart to allow Welsh's bail to continue while these were prepared - stating the Kilmaurs man had no issue with complying with conditions of this since his initial arrest in March last year.
Sheriff Mactaggart then deferred sentence for reports to be prepared, and granted Welsh bail under special conditions.
He was also made subject to the requirements of a registered sex offender, with the period of time he spends on the register to be determined when he is sentenced next month.
