AN HISTORIC Ardrossan organisation say they have had to make the "hard decision" to close.

The 1st Ardrossan Girls' Brigade announced this week that they would no longer be continuing after nearly a century operating in the town.

The company officially closed its doors for the last time back in May, with efforts made at that time to ensure the group's future by finding new leaders for the troop.

However, this was to no avail meaning that their base at the Park Church in Ardrossan would not be re-opening.

A spokesperson said: "After 97 amazing years our company closed it’s doors for the last time in May.

"We were unable to recruit new leaders in order for us to continue so took the hard decision to close.

"Our company served countless girls from our town and beyond, and also served our community in many ways.

"Thank you to absolutely every single person who was a part of 1st Ardrossan Girls Brigade. Friday nights just won’t be the same."

The news was met by much sadness by the many woman who were previously members of the group.

One commented: "The Girls' Brigade played such a big role in me becoming who I am today. Sad to see it come to this."

While another added: "My daughter is really gutted that it has stopped. She really misses her Friday nights.

"Thanks to all the leaders for everything over the years. She has lots of great memories because of you all."
