A NEW café in Ayr has been opened by Ukrainian settlers in the area, offering unique culinary blends.

The Auld Brig Café, located at 13 Old Bridge Street, opened on Tuesday, October 8.

It was opened by three Ukrainians who settled in the town after being forced to leave their home country.

They all met in Scotland and bonded over a mutual interest in coffee, cake and creativity.

The idea to open the coffee shop came about during a walk through the "picturesque streets of Scotland".

The business aims to unite the Ukrainian and Scottish cultures by creating a unique space for meetings and communication.

Many of the dishes on the menu infuse food from both Scotland and Ukraine.

Some of these include Medovik cake, borscht, traditional Ukrainian crepes filled with haggis, and homemade Napoleon cake.

A spokesperson said: “Our concept is a harmonious blend of the traditions of both nations.

"On the menu, you will find both Scottish delicacies and traditional Ukrainian dishes adapted to local tastes.

“We aim not just to offer delicious coffee but also to preserve the atmosphere of a classic coffee house."
