MSP Siobhian Brown has praised the work being done by Opportunities in Retirement (OiR) in Ayrshire.

Opportunities in Retirement serves over 50s who are retired or semi-retired by organising a range of activities, classes, outings, holidays, and other events.

Members pay a £20 annual fee which entitles them to access any of the many groups the organisation offers.

The different groups available to members include badminton, book clubs, choirs, and much more.

Many of the groups also run via Zoom which enables those who are less able to get involved.

The group is hosting an Open Day on Wednesday, October 23 at Newton Wallacetown Church Hall.

The event will run from 1-3 pm and will give people the opportunity to find out more about the activities being offered by the group and how they can get involved.

SNP MSP for Ayr, Ms Brown, said: “I have had the pleasure of meeting the team at OiR for several years now and they do some amazing work locally for people in retirement.

“I attended the last open day, and it was brilliant to see the wide range of activities that were on offer and the positive impact that these were having on these people’s health and wellbeing.

"We all know that isolation and loneliness are significant issues for older and retired people.

"As such the Scottish Government is committed to tackling these issues and groups like OiR are key in this battle.

“As such I would encourage everyone in my constituency to attend the open day and find out how they can get involved with the group’s activities.”
