THE ALLOWAY Scottish Women's Institute has celebrated its 50th anniversary with a special event.
Fifty current and past members gathered at The Balgarth Pines in Ayr for a celebratory lunch.
Among the attendees were national president Mary Burney, Ayrshire federation president Nan Brown, and federation secretary Beth Griffin.
Maureen McKee, who welcomed everyone, gave a brief history of the Institute’s formation in 1974.
The minutes of the first annual general meeting were read out loud by Linda Wallace.
A cake, baked and decorated by former president June Foreman, was cut by Mary, the youngest member Claire Matthews, and the oldest member Joyce McCracken.
Nan Brown presented a loyalty certificate to Linda Wallace in recognition of her support of the organisation.
Flower arrangements, made by Rita Brash, were given to Mary and Nan as a reminder of Alloway’s 'special' day
The event was concluded by Maureen after she emphasised the 'friendship and fun' that the meetings bring.
