A NEW date has been set for the parole hearing of a man who killed a Drongan teenager, according to a family campaign group.

Michelle Stewart was brutally attacked and killed by John Wilson (also known as John Sanken) in 2008 when she was just 17.

Michelle's killer was handed a life sentence and told he would have to serve 12 years behind bars before being considered for parole.

Following Michelle's death, a family campaign group was set up named Michelle's Law, which aims to protect the families of victims and put their welfare at the centre of any decision on parole and early release.

John Wilson was due to have his fifth parole hearing on September 13 for the brutal killing of Michelle.

However, according to the family group, that has been rescheduled for Wednesday, September 25.

Michelle's family maintain that they want their daughter's killer's image shared as wide as possible, which will give them the best chance of him being located outside of Ayrshire.

They have mentioned how much they fear that he could be released within Ayrshire and they bump into him one day.

Previous information, shared with the Michelle's Law group stating the reason for Wilson being denied parole, said: "The offender's index offending was extremely serious.

"They were reported to show little remorse for their actions and the representation from the victim's family vividly describes the permanent and devastating harm caused by them."

Michelle's family met with the parole board in June to set out why they believed, and continue to believe, Wilson should not be released.

Now they looking ahead to the end of the month, when they hope the same decision will be reached.

The group said: "The parole hearing to decide whether Michelle's murderer John Wilson walks free from prison this month will take place on Wednesday, September 25 at 1.30pm.

"He will continue to be a threat to the public, more specifically women.

"We have made our representations to the parole board as to why they should not release him.

"Hopefully, the scumbag will be refused and be sent back to continue with his life sentence."
