A CHARITY champion is setting off on an epic 580-mile cycling challenge in aid of the Ayrshire Hospice.
Austin Cooke will cycle from Mizen Head to Malin Head as part of a group taking on the Wild Atlantic Way in Ireland.
Averaging 64 miles a day, it will take him nine days to complete through many beautiful and challenging landscapes.
He set himself a fundraising target of £580, or £1 for every mile cycled, and has so far raised an incredible £1,737.
Austin said: "Mum was a strong supporter of the Ayrshire Hospice which provides a huge support to people and their families at a time of need.
"I would like to feel that my efforts are supporting such a good cause. I have set a target of £580 which would mean that I know for each mile I cycle I will generate at least one pound for the Ayrshire Hospice.
"The cycle is organised and supported by 'Peak Tours' who transport luggage and provide back up etc.
"One of my brothers is doing the cycle with me and we have been meeting up to undertake some of the recommended training rides over the last few weeks.
"If I complete all of the training rides, I will have cycled 1000 miles in the 10 week period up to the start of the cycle."
An Ayrshire Hospice spokesperson said: "Good Luck Austin and all other cyclists going on this epic adventure – we're cheering you on!"
