The date has been announced for the start of demolition work on Kilmarnock's much-maligned multi-storey car park.

The structure will start to come down on Monday, September 9, with work due to be completed by April next year.

Options for the use of the public space this will create are currently being developed, with East Ayrshire Council planning to transform it into an attractive, functional civic space.

A number of community engagement events ran in the Burns Mall shopping centre earlier this year where locals were able to give their views.

The proposed civic space will act as a meeting point within the town centre and can be used for events, markets, socialising, resting and dining outdoors.
