Here we're looking back at some of our biggest stories of the month, from drama at Prestwick Airport to Celtic arriving in the area ahead of their title-winning match in Kilmarnock. 

Ayrshire town is 'cheapest' seaside location to buy property

Saltcoats has been named the "cheapest" place to buy a seaside property in the whole of the UK.

It comes after new research was released by property experts GetAgent which revealed the most and least affordable towns across the country.

And according to this data, with an average house price of £114,696, Saltcoats in North Ayrshire is the best place for picking up a bargain home by the sea.

It was one of two locations in Ayrshire and seven across Scotland which made the top 20 of the list.

Prestwick flight declares emergency minutes after take-off

A Ryanair flight declared an emergency minutes after take-off from Glasgow Prestwick airport on Monday, May 13.

Flight FR655, operated by an 18-year-old Boeing 737-800, departed the airport around 8.45am bound for Malaga. 

Flight tracking data shows the plane squawked 7700, indicating a general emergency, minutes after take-off as it flew at an altitude of 6,000 ft over Stranraer.

It later landed safely at around 10am at Dublin Airport. You can read the full story online now.

Celtic team seen arriving at Seamill Hydro in West Kilbride

Celtic stars provoked a frenzy when they were spotted at the hotel in the hours before their title-winning clash with Kilmarnock.

Players and staff posed for pictures with fans before their 5-0 triumph over the Rugby Park side which secured the title.

The venue has long been synonymous with the club with visits and training camps at “their favourite Seamill haunt" dating as far back as 1949.

Most famously, legendary Celtic manager Jock Stein was known to take his sides to the hotel in the immediate days before cup finals and important European ties in the 1960s.

Impressive A380 lands at Prestwick Airport for first time

The mammoth Airbus A380 drew huge crowds as it landed at Prestwick Airport for the first time back on May 1. 

The aircraft operated by Global Airlines touched down at the airport at around 4pm with crowds of onlookers and aviation enthusiasts lining the roads around the airport.

It's the first time the aircraft type - the largest in the world -has landed at the South Ayrshire airport.

Irvine's Bakery to close Kilbirnie shop later this month

An award-winning North Ayrshire bakery confirmed earlier this month that it planned to close one of its shop branches.

The Irvine's Bakery store in Kilbirnie ceased operating in the town on Friday, May 31.

It was a decision not taken lightly by business owner Maurice Irvine, who says that a lack of production staff has driven the move.

It is hoped that a majority of staff from the branch on Kilbirnie's Main Street can be relocated to the remaining Irvine's branches, in Beith and Dalry, which will be unaffected and remain open as usual.
