A Kilwinning man has admitted driving a car when more than three times the drug limit.

James Barrie, 33, of Moncur Road, pleaded guilty to the offence at Ayrshire College in the town on April 21 last year.

Appearing at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court, he was charged with driving a car when the proportion of Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol in his blood was seven microgrammes per litre of blood, when the limit is two microgrammes.

Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol is the principal psychoactive constituent of cannabis.

Sheriff Nicola Patrick ordered background reports, due to "the nature of this offence and your record".

The diet was adjourned until a later date, and Barrie was disqualified from driving until sentencing.
