A STEWARTON curler has marked 50 years as a member of the same club after being presented with a special award.
Robert Whiteford received a special gift marking his five decades of membership at the Stewarton Heather club from president David Reid.
Robert joined the club in 1973 after being encouraged to join by his father and started at Crossmyloof ice rink.
He has played in all the club's competitions over the years and won the lot at one time or another.
Robert took over the secretary role from Archie Reid in 1998, and served until 2014. He was also club president in 2012.
Stepping back from office bearer position didn’t dampen his enthusiasm for the club, though, and he devoted a lot of his time to create a book to commemorate the club's 175th anniversary.
Robert received an honorary membership in 2018 from Jim Kirkwood, who was club president at the time.
A club spokesperson added: "Not only is Robert a fantastic asset to Stewarton Heather with guidance and advice but he is also a tremendous member of various clubs in and around Stewarton.
"Well done Robert, a great achievement and we all hope that you enjoy many more years curling in Stewarton Heather."
