A PLANTING scheme at Annanhill Golf Course in Kilmarnock to mark World Rewilding Day was a blooming great success.

East Ayrshire Leisure worked with the council's modern apprentices and parental employability scheme to plant daffodils and wildflowers along the edge of paths and the new recycled boardwalk at the course.

An East Ayrshire Leisure spokesperson said: "Wildflower seeds will attract a wide variety of pollinating insects and potentially encourage pollinators to what was previously rough grassland.

Ayrshire Today:

"The resulting mass of colour will also be a great attraction visually for all users of the course and path.

"The planting was funded by money received from the Renewal Energy Fund and Nature Restoration Fund, for a new path route which is currently under construction around the golf course along with the introduction of wildlife ponds and wildlife corridors."
