A busy route between Kilmarnock and Irvine has now reopened following flooding and drainage issues.

One lane of the A71 at Moorfield Roundabout was closed for several weeks due to the issue, causing congestion at peak times.

The road links the East Ayrshire town with the route to North Ayrshire including Irvine and the coast.

Ayrshire Roads Alliance, who were undertaking the works, have now confirmed that the issue has been investigated and repaired.

A spokesperson said: "Last week, we closed the nearside lane on the A71 Moorfield Roundabout to Crosehill Mount Roundabout due to flooding and drainage issues.

"We investigated, repaired and have now reopened the lane."
