A Kilmarnock man who was assaulted with a metal bat after banging on a door in the middle of the night has been told he "suffered the consequences of his bad decisions".

Freddie Richardson, 20, of Talisker Avenue, pleaded guilty to two charges at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court following the incident on December 23 last year.

He appeared alongside two co-accused who pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The court was told that around 4am on the night in question, two people living in the town's Dean Street were awoken by someone banging and kicking on their door, shouting "open the f****** door".

The pair phoned the police and got a metal bat from inside the property, before returning to the front door to find it open with Richardson standing in the doorway.

The pair inside the property assaulted Richardson and he fled the area and an ambulance had been called for him.

The ambulance arrived at the nearby Gillsburn Gardens, to find Richardson bleeding from his jaw.

Police also attended and found him refusing treatment, before getting aggressive and telling the officers to "get to f***".

He was arrested and taken to Kilmarnock Police Station. His injuries later required ten stitches.

Richardson's Defence Solicitor told the court that he had a dispute with the man who lived in the property, and that he "suffered the consequences of his bad decisions".

He was fined £110  for causing fear and alarm at the property in Dean Street and admonished for his charge of shouting swearing in Gillsburn Gardens.
