CONCEPT designs have been revealed for a planned new walking and cycling route between Kilmarnock and Crosshouse - and the public can now have their say on the proposals.

The Ayrshire Roads Alliance (ARA) is creating an active travel link thanks to funding awarded by Sustrans.

ARA says the project will create a safe and attractive way for walking, wheeling and cycling on the route, which will link to the University Hospital Crosshouse and the Moorfield North Industrial Estate.

The current footway along the route is narrow, and there are no cycle paths adjacent to the busy B7081 which runs along the route.

Ayrshire Today:

In the past five years, ARA says, two people walking along or crossing the B7081 Kilmarnock Road have been involved in a collision with a vehicle, and one cyclist was involved in a collision along the B7081 on approach to Moorfield North Industrial Estate.

A public consultation on the plans was undertaken in December, and concept designs have now been created.

The design includes a two-metre-wide footway and a three-metre-wide cycle track which are separated from each other, and from the road, with a kerb.

A public consultation on the concepts is being held until Sunday, March 24.
