Youngsters in Kilmarnock are being given a taste of bowls thanks to Northwest Kilmarnock Bowling Club.
The club, in partnership with Active Schools, are running training sessions for P5 youngsters at three local primary schools – Hillhead, Onthank and Mount Carmel.
Over the next four weeks, Bob McChristie and the team from Northwest Kilmarnock Bowling Club will be holding training sessions during the school day and at after-school clubs.
Councillor Elaine Cowan, East Ayrshire Council's spokesperson for education, children and young people, dropped into a session at Hillhead Primary and was put through her paces with the P5’s.
She said: “Bowls really is a sport for everyone and Scotland, particularly Ayrshire, has been very successful at nurturing champion bowlers.
"I was really pleased to join Bob McChristie’s training session at Hillhead Primary and to see first-hand the enthusiasm, and skill, of the young people.
“Bowling clubs are at the heart of their local communities and projects like this will ensure that they remain there.”
