The start date for the construction of Ayrshire Cancer Support's new centre in Ayr has been revealed.

The new centre in the former St Andrew's Hotel will include two complementary therapy rooms, a counselling room, a large and smaller group room, children and young people’s private rooms, a drop in centre, and library spaces.

It will add to the cancer charity's existing facility in Kilmarnock town centre, which has supported Ayrshire residents affected by cancer for many years.

A building contractor has now been appointed for the project, with work set to start on Monday, March 4.

The charity's adult counselling service will be delivered in both the Kyle Chemotherapy Unit at Ayr Hospital and Prestwick North Education Campus.

Its complementary therapy services will move to the Kyle Chemotherapy Unit at Ayr Hospital.

The charity's children and young people one to one support will continue to be delivered in schools and also in Prestwick North Education Campus.

Its South Ayrshire 5-12 years peer group will move to Prestwick North Education Campus.

Drop in will continue to be available in its Kilmarnock Centre, and all other groups, courses and workshops will remain in their current community locations.

A charity spokesperson said: "We anticipate the build to continue throughout 2024 and we will share regular progress updates.

"This amazing facility will allow us to continue to support people affected by cancer in Ayrshire and you can read more about the exciting plans at www.home4cancer.org."
