AN AYR man has completed his mammoth challenge of running and walking 4,000 miles in one year for charity.
Gary Burgess, who started by running a half-marathon every single day in the first half of 2023 before being told by doctors to stop for health reasons, reached the finish line on Thursday, December 21.
Since the doctor's warning, Gary has been swapping between walking the distance one day and running the next in an effort to complete the challenge before the end of the year.

Gary ran a half marathon for 220 days, reaching 2,882 miles before switching to the walk/run changeover for 145 days.
The epic fundraising challenge had raised £1,877 in donations for British Heart Foundation by Friday afternoon.
Gary said: "I just kept going for the charity."
Even though his challenge is now complete, you can still give a donation through Gary's online fund-raising page to help the BHF - to do so, go to justgiving.com/fundraising/gary-burgess7.
