Kilmarnock YMCA has been given vital funding boosts with the award of more than £100,000 from ScottishPower Renewables.

The electricity company has awarded over £25 million of funding to more than £1,200 projects across Central Scotland.

Awarded over more than two decades, the funding is provided by ScottishPower Renewables windfarms across the region.

It aims to support the continued development of the local area and to enable the community to realise their own ambitions.

This includes Kilmarnock YMCA, which has received over £100,000 in funding over the years from the Whiteless Windfarm site.

The money has been invested in a variety of creative ways including the creation of a community garden and ball game area as well as new equipment and fencing for the multi-use games area.

The games area now also benefits from solar floodlighting, boosting its environmental impact and enabling greater use of the facility in the evenings.

The funds have also helped the organization to leverage funding from other sources which has contributed to both community development and economic development in the area.

Gillian Arnot, senior stakeholder and community manager at ScottishPower Renewables, says the company wants to be a good neighbour to its communities.

She said: “We have been operating in central Scotland for over two decades and we are so pleased to have played a part, whether big or small, in so many wonderful community initiatives.

“We’re continually striving to be the best neighbour to our communities given they’re at the heart of what we do.

“We firmly believe they are best placed to determine how best to use the funds from our developments to drive benefits that mean most to them.”
