A woman suffering from pneumonia claims she has been "dumped" in a Crosshouse Hospital ward with no privacy curtains, plug sockets or TV.

Patricia McLaren, from Kilmarnock, has been in ward 3B for four days after being transferred from the hospital's combined assessment unit.

She says hospital staff told her: "Sorry it's not a proper bed space."

Her fiance Dave said: "She has been treated like a dog. They shoved her right at a window in an extra bed in the room, with no privacy.

"She has no curtains, plug sockets or TV by her bed.

"She ended up right up against a window with all her bags just packed on top of her bed and her personal wheelchair just flung aside."

Jacqueline Nicol, director of acute services at University Hospital Crosshouse, said: "NHS Ayrshire & Arran takes all patient feedback, comments, concerns or complaints very seriously.

"We are sorry that a patient has felt they had to raise concerns about the care provided.

"However, we are unable to comment on individual cases.

"We would encourage anyone who is unhappy with our services to contact the department directly or via our feedback and complaints team with any concerns they have.

"Once we gain consent, we can properly involve patients and families in the process and provide feedback.

"At this time, pressures remain high across our health and care system in Ayrshire and Arran, and we continue to focus on the decongestion of our acute hospitals.

"Our dedicated staff are working tirelessly to try and improve the situation under challenging conditions. We ask for your patience and support in these matters."
