An Ayrshire vet practice has issued a stern warning over the dangers of mince pies this Christmas season.

Vets4Pets Ayrshire, which has practices across the region, is reminding dog owners that various festive foods can be harmful to their pets if ingested.

This includes mince pies, which contain raisins, currants and sultanas which can cause kidney failure in dogs.

A spokesperson said: "Every year we see dogs that have taken a liking to mince pies.

"If these are ingested by our dogs it can cause them to become seriously ill.

"So please keep them out of your dogs reach. If you suspect your naughty little elf has eaten one, please contact us as soon as possible on 01563 522225.
