Police Scotland is reminding people about the rules around e-scooters ahead of Christmas.
Anyone considering buying an electric scooter for Christmas should understand the law and implications of using one in a public place.
Police say that riding the devices on public land is illegal in Scotland, and they require the correct documents and permissions.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Purchasing an e-scooter is legal. Using that privately owned e-scooter on private land, with the landowner’s permission, is also permitted.
"However, with there being no trial areas for e-scooters anywhere in Scotland, private use of e-scooters in a public place is illegal.
"Public places include, and are not limited to - roads, pavements, parks, town centres and promenades.
"E-scooters are classified as Powered Transporters and fall under the same laws and regulations as any other motor vehicle.
"They require a valid driving licence, insurance and compliance with various construction and use requirements."
