Pupils at a Kilmarnock school have been working hard to help improve their local community and encourage the whole school to be more environmentally aware.

Annanhill Primary's Clean Green group is led by an enthusiastic group of young people from P7, and is committed to earning a Silver Award at the annual Clean Green Education Awards that will take place next June.

As part of this commitment, they have signed up to initiatives that will help reduce energy and water consumption.

They have organised events in the local community including a community clean up in November with parents and carers, children and young people, staff, community leaders and local councillors.

They also organised the school community to donate pre-loved clothes to Rags2Riches, opening a donation station at parent’s night in October.

They have gathered an incredible 88 bags of clothes since then raising £155 to help the school continue on their Clean Green journey.

Councillor Graham Barton, spokesperson for planning, property and environment at East Ayrshire Council, said: “I was delighted to hear all the hard work being carried out by the Clean Green team and their commitment to earn a Silver Award.

"I am looking forward to the next awards, which are just over six months away, and to hearing updates from all of our Clean Green schools and the positive change that has been introduced across East Ayrshire.”
