Two Ayrshire sporting heroes who are featured in a new book dropped into Ayrshire College’s Kilmarnock Campus to present it to the college’s learning resource centre.
Kayleigh Haggo, a former student at Ayrshire College who is a para-athlete and holder of multiple world records, and Rose Reilly, who received an honorary degree from Ayrshire College in 2020 and is involved in projects at the college, are celebrated in Spectacular Scottish Women.
The Ayrshire College Student Association has purchased copies to be held in the learning resource centres at each of its campuses - in Ayr, Kilwinning and Kilmarnock - to inspire students and honour Kayleigh and Rose’s achievements.
Kayleigh Haggo was recently inducted into the College Development Network's College Hall of Fame.
She has won a gold medal at the World Para Athletics Championships and three gold medals at the European Paralympic Youth Games, setting 13 world records and four national age group records in swimming, race running and club throw sports.
Rose Reilly is a former Scottish footballer who won the women's World Cup in 1984 while representing Italy - a year after being voted the world's best female footballer,
Rose's career trophy haul also includes eight Serie A titles and has seen her become a pioneer of women's football in Scotland.
Linda Corbett, Ayrshire College's student president, said: “It’s not every day a former student is celebrated in a book, so we thought it would be fitting to recognise Kayleigh’s success by ordering Spectacular Scottish Women for our students to read through.
"It was brilliant to meet with Kayleigh and Rose, who has been an important presence for encouraging girls into sport over the years.
"Their stories are incredible. They are both well deserving of their place in this book and we’re thankful that they could join us at the college to celebrate.”
