A MILLPORT couple have denied allegations of neglecting their two children.
The pair, who we are not identifying, to protect the identity of the children, faced a single charge containing string of allegations around the fitness of their home when they appeared at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court.
The Crown alleges that the couple's behaviour could have caused the children "unnecessary suffering or injury to health".
The island pair both pleaded not guilty to the charge when their case called on Thursday, October 19.
Court papers allege that on May 12 this year they did "wilfully neglect their children" by failing to provide them with a clean, safe place to live.
The Crown claims that faeces were found on the floor in rooms at a property in Millport, as well as a "large amount" of rubbish bags left on the floor and on furniture.
The charge against the couple also claims there was no clean crockery or cutlery at the property and that a number of "mouldy items" were found throughout.
The charge also alleges that the pair left cannabis in locations throughout the property where the children could get access to the class B drug.
It's also claimed that there was no food in the fridge at the property, and that nails were found sticking out of the flooring in some areas.
The couple pleaded not guilty and were released on bail; they will stand trial on the allegations next year.
