A prominent statue on Kilmarnock's London Road has been given a new lease of life after pleas from a local councillor.
Councillor Graham Boyd, who represents Kilmarnock East and Hurlford, asked for the Sir James Shaw statue opposite the Dick Institute to be cleaned.
The statue remembers Sir James, who was born at Riccarton and became Lord Major of London in 1805.
Councillor Boyd says the clean statue should restore more civic pride in Kilmarnock, and one of its most famous sons.
He said: "I recently requested the Sir James Shaw statue be cleaned. For some reason it wasn’t on the list of war memorials/statues to be cleaned.
"This morning I was delighted to visit and see this work being carried out, another small win that makes us all feel better about our town.
"The statue used to be sited at the Cross but was moved in 1929 to its present site due to increasing traffic congestion.
"Sir Jimmy, as he’s fondly known, is one of the most prominent people to have lived in Kilmarnock, it’s only right his statue is kept in a fitting way."
