A LARGS man has admitted to producing his own cannabis plants within his home.

Robert Harrison, 58, pleaded guilty to one charge when he appeared at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court last week.

Harrison, of Alexander Avenue, admitted to producing the class B drug in March of this year.

After admitting to the charge on Thursday, September 28, the court was told the circumstances which led to Harrison appearing in the dock.

The procurator fiscal depute explained that officers on duty were attending in Alexander Avenue at 11am on March 11 in relation to another matter where the accused was traced within the property.

While there, officers could smell cannabis coming from the rear bedroom.

They obtained a search warrant and in the rear bedroom officers recovered two cannabis plants - as well as "various cultivation items" - which Harrison admitted to owning.

Officers state that the plants had an approximate value of around £600 each.

Harrison was cautioned and charged and replied at this time that the plants were purely for "personal use".

Preciding over the case, Sheriff Murdoch Mactaggart deferred sentence to a later date while reports are gathered.

Harrison will return to court at a later date and bail was continued.
