LUGAR Boswell Thistle boss George Wallace is hoping his shock troops can take inspiration from their Scottish Junior Cup performance.

The Jaggy Bunnets caused one of few shocks in the competition's third round - knocking out higher division opposition in Cambuslang Rangers.

The Rosebank Park boss was not present at Saturday's [October 19] game though was thrilled to see his side halt a run of three games without a win.

He commented: “We needed that, we’ve got three massive league games coming up and we had a hard couple of weeks before that.

“It’s been there, we just hadn’t brought it all together, but by all reports every single one of them was at it on Saturday – maybe I should go away more often.

“The next three are massive now, we need to get results to try and push us up the league.”

And after earning a place in round four, where Lugar will host Larkhall Thistle, Wallace admits he would welcome a run in the competition - even if it's not the East Ayrshire side's priority.

He said: “I’m prioritising the league more than the cup, but everyone wants a good Scottish Cup run.

“It’s a decent draw for us in the next round as well, anything at home I don’t fear.

“If we can get a decent wee run it brings in good revenue and that helps us out.

“It’s good for the boys, some haven’t went far in the cup before – it’s up to them to perform now to get that.”

Though the next round is still weeks away, with a vital run of league fixtures now coming Lugar's way.

Before the Junior Cup clash, the Jaggy Bunnets face the three sides currently occupying the relegation zone in the West of Scotland Football League Third Division.

Wallace says the outcome of these fixtures could prove vital in deciding whether it will be battle for promotion, or staving off relegation, for the rest of the campaign.

He said: “You want to be right in the mix at Christmas time, anywhere in the top six or seven would be good.

“It will be either top half or bottom half after the next three games.

“The goal is to push for promotion again but it’s a big ask for a wee club like us.”

First in the run for Lugar is a home fixture against Irvine Victoria on Saturday, October 26, with kick off at 2pm.
