LUGAR Boswell Thistle boss George Wallace has his sights set on a "money spinning" tie after his side secured progression in the South Challenge Cup.

The Jaggy Bunnets secured their spot in round three with a resounding win over higher league opposition in the form of Craigmark Burntonians.

The East Ayrshire outfit put in a stunning performance as they ran out 6-1 winners at Rosebank Park thanks to goals from Jamie Donnelly, Liam Miller, Nathan Murray and a Ewan McIver hat-trick.

The result brings to an end a run of four matches without a win, though Wallace says there was never any panic with his side only facing defeat once during that run.

He commented: “It was good to get a win. I said to the boys to try not to be too downbeat because we’ve had three draws recently - we’re not getting beat.

“We’re in the league above and I think sometimes we might be expecting too much.

“The performance on Saturday was very convincing, from start to finish, the boys were right at it.”

Off the back of the result, Wallace has welcomed a return to the squad for a lot of his injured players - which he admits has gave him a "good headache".

He added: “We’ve only been beat once recently, we’ve got a fully fit squad, it’s getting harder to pick a team every week with boys pushing.

“It’s a good headache to have, trying to decide what’s my best team.”

He hopes the run will help translate into league performances, and that his side will take confidence in defeating higher league opposition - even if Craigmark are out of form.

Wallace said: “Any time you beat a team that’s in the league above it’s good for morale even if they’re not on a good run.

“My goal is to try and go up again, I know it’s a big ask to go two in two and if we stay midtable that’s good but I’m always pushing to be better – and the boys are going for it as well.”

Despite progression, Wallace admitted that winning the competition isn't quite on his radar.

Instead, he hopes to draw one of the local "big boys" in the next round of the competition.

He commented: “We’re never going to win any of the cups but it’s good for the boys and it takes the pressure off a wee bit.

“If you go on a wee run it’s good and we’ll be hard to beat at home, no matter who’s playing us. We’ll take anyone we get and we’ll give it 100 per cent.”

“I wouldn’t mind a Talbot or Cumnock – because you’ll get a good crowd and wee bit of money.

“That’s what we want, as long as we can get a good crowd and wee bit of money generated it helps us for the rest of the season."

Next up for the Jaggy Bunnets is a Scottish Junior Cup tie at home to Forres Thistle. The match will take place on Saturday, September 21, with kick off at 2.30pm.
