THERE was heartbreak for an Ayrshire Sunday Amateur Football Association side eyeing up glory in the biggest competition of them all at the weekend.

Kilmarnock-based side Grange Amateurs headed to Stenhousemuir's Ochilview Park on Sunday, April 14, to face Lothian and Edinburgh outfit Westside in the semi-final of the Scottish Cup.

The reigning Ayrshire league and West of Scotland Cup champions headed into the match full of confidence and have been prolific on all fronts so far this season.

However, it wasn't to be as their quest to win the biggest competition of them all for the first time ended in a 1-0 defeat.

The Ayrshire side fell behind in the match, played in particularly challenging conditions, with two second-half red cards halting their hopes of a comeback.

The club shared their disappointment on social media following the result though vowed to continue in their quests to earn a domestic treble.

A spokesperson said: "Very disappointing day for the boys after a 1-0 defeat to Westside in the semis of the Scottish Cup.

"Conditions were horrendous for both sides with the wind blowing a gale. Very frustrating for us, and losing two players to second yellows summed it up.

"Credit to Westside and all the best for the final lads.

"Massive thanks to everyone who came up to support us, we are sorry for letting you down.

"Not to be but three domestic cups still up for grabs for the lads so our season is far from over."
