You may have heard of the Too Good To Go service and I tried what Starbucks had to offer through the programme to see what it was like.
Too Good To Go exists as a way to fight food waste, with many businesses offering bags of unsold products near their expiry date at a discounted price.
Whilst some people may be aware that certain supermarkets such as Morrisons and Aldi offer bags of groceries through the service, plenty of other places take part as well.
Lots of restaurants and cafes are part of the programme including Starbucks.
Now if you were looking to get a free coffee out of this then you would be looking in the wrong place, but their bag does incorporate plenty of sweet and savoury food items.
For a cost of £4 you can get a mystery selection of wraps, bagels, paninis, cakes, salads, pastries and juices that would usually amount to £12.
I was curious to see what this would be like, especially as I had only got Too Good To Go bags from supermarkets previously.
It was very easy to book the bag through the Too Good To Go app, as I booked on the morning of Monday, August 12 and was able to collect between 5pm and 5.30pm later that day.
Understandably with it being the early evening my local Starbucks was very quiet so I was able to collect the bag very quickly.
What I got in my Starbucks Too Good To Go bag
In my Starbucks Too Good To Go bag I received five items which were:
- an All Day Breakfast Wrap - £6.50 RRP
- a butter croissant - £3.05 - RRP
- a chocolate brownie - £3.60
- a lemon sherbert cake pop - £3.30 RRP
- a Raspberry & White Chocolate Mallow top - £3.75 RRP
According to the prices of the items, the bag would be worth £20.20 in normal circumstances, representing a huge saving.
Starbucks also helpfully left an information sheet in the bag listing the items included and instructions for warming specific foods so you could eat them in the optimal way.
The biggest potential concern I could see occurring was with the All Day Breakfast Wrap, which was the only item to come in a packet.
Its best-before date was on the day I collected but I thought I would save it for the following morning to have.
Due to the instructions, it was easy to prepare and it was thankfully also exceptionally tasty.
The combination of free-range scrambled egg, BBQ baked beans, cheddar cheese, pork sausage, hickory smoked streaky bacon and spinach was brilliant.
After that, the rest of the items were a mixture of cakes and pastries, which is ideal for someone like me who has a bit of a sweet tooth.
I shared some with my family, with the croissant, chocolate brownie and lemon sherbert cake pop being rated as delicious and thankfully not stale a day after collecting.
There was only the Raspberry & White Chocolate Mallow top left after that which I enjoyed two days after collecting the bag.

The sweet treat had a muffin-type base with a marshmallow top dipped in chocolate as well as raspberry jam in the middle.
It was honestly heavenly and whilst I don't frequent Starbucks very often I feel like I would definitely get this again if I found myself in a branch.
Overall, the Starbucks Too Good To Go bag is one of brilliant value and is definitely worth getting if you like a cake or two.
