THE family of a man killed in a crash in East Ayrshire more than three years ago have shared their "immeasurable" loss following the conclusion of a High Court case.
Gary Patterson lost his life after a three-vehicle collision on the A713 road near Patna in July 2021, following an incident of "competitive driving".
Daniel Kelly, of Irvine, was driving his car along the rural road alongside Adam Smith - who was also killed while driving another car.
This week, at the High Court in Edinburgh, Kelly was sentenced having been convicted of dangerous driving by a jury.
As an alternative to a custodial term, Kelly received a community payback order with a requirement to complete 250 hours of unpaid work. He was also tagged for nine months with night-time curfew conditions and given a four-year driving ban.
The incident resulted in a collision with a third car which was in the oncoming lane.
It claimed the life of "devoted" husband, dad and grandfather Mr Patterson, who was a passenger in the third vehicle.
Solicitors Digby Brown, acting for the Patterson family, released a statement following the trial.
It said: “Gary was a much loved and devoted husband, dad, and papa, and a wonderful brother, uncle, and friend.
“The loss we have suffered is immeasurable but the outpouring of love and support from those around us has brought much comfort - we now kindly request our privacy is respected as we attempt to move forward.”
