SCOTTISH Water is holding an information event in Stewarton ahead of work starting on more than £12 million worth of investments to improve the town’s waste water network.

The publicly-owned utility firm is delivering four projects over the next two years to alleviate sewer flooding and improve the effectiveness of combined sewer overflows (CSOs).

Work on the first begins next month in Barbours Park where a relocated CSO and new giant underground storage tank will be built, and a new upgraded surface water sewer installed.

All four projects have been co-ordinated for delivery to make the best use of resources and minimise disruption for residents and road users.

To update the local community on the project and the other planned investments, a drop-in event will take place on Wednesday, September 25 at Stewarton Area Centre between 3.30pm and 6.30pm.

Other projects include a new CSO and outfall at David Dale in January, an updated CSO and pipework at High Street in February, and an updated CSO and pipework at Kirkford Bridge in July next year.

Kieran Downey, flooding manager at Scottish Water, said: “This is an opportunity for members of the community to catch up with the project team and hear more detail about the work being undertaken.

“These events are also an important means for us to further tap into local knowledge and identify potential issues before they arise and adapt accordingly.

“Communities lie at the heart of everything we do so it is vital we build strong relationships to deliver much-needed investment where it can bring the most benefit.”

The Barbours Park project is being delivered by Caledonia Water Alliance (CWA).

Paul Milligan, CWA communications manager, said “We would encourage residents to come on down to the Stewarton Area Centre and drop in anytime between 3.30pm and 6.30pm if they can.

“If you are unable to make it on the day we will post all of the information on our dedicated web page after the event at scottishwater.co.uk/stewarton.”
