A "one in a billion" spherical egg has been discovered in an Ayrshire supermarket.

A woman found the “almost perfectly spherical” egg in a box of 15 during her weekly shop at Asda in Ayr.

The egg is now up for sale at Thomson Roddick Callan auction house, with hopes that it could fetch more than £500.

David Miller, who works for the auction house, confirmed that round eggs are a rare occurrence, and that they can sell at auctions for hundreds of pounds.

The egg's best before date is August 20, and it will be available for bids on August 8 from 10am.
