A charitable walker is aiming to reach one million steps in August to raise money for the Ayrshire Hospice.

Mark Long has set himself the challenge throughout the month, and is already closing in on 100,000 steps.

Mark has been inspired to fundraise in memory of Robert Dodds  who was a member of his Masonic Lodge in West Kilbride No.314.

He explained: "I am raising funds for a charity that I am extremely passionate about. I believe everyone should have the appropriate care in life when that need is required.

"That is costly and requires the necessary equipment and skilled staff to ensure the needs of the hospice is maintained at a high standard.

"Having observed the amazing care and service received by Robert Dodds, a recently passed member of my Masonic lodge in West Kilbride, No 314, where I have the distinction and privilege as serving as its current master, this has driven me to challenge myself and bring profile to the cause.

"One million steps through August will involve longer walks to visit numerous landmarks, whilst incorporating my local work network to widen scope and give me additional stretching challenges."
