A dedicated team of walkers have raised an incredible amount of money for a much-loved Ayrshire charity.

More than 80 walkers took on the River Ayr walk, from Glenbuck to Ayr, during the summer to raise funds for Ayrshire Hospice.

Organised by Muirkirk man, Craig Burns, this year's efforts looked to one better than last year, when a team of 38 people walked from Ayr to Glenbuck, raising almost £16,000.

This year, Craig decided to walk in the opposite direction, with his trusty team managing to bring in a further £20,583 for the charity, meaning they have raised over £36,000 in just over a year.

Although Craig was tight-lipped on if this will become an annual event, he was taken aback by the overall support and effort from everyone involved.

He said: "It was amazing to get that many people out and to raise so much money.

"To do that two years in a row is quite an effort.

"I'm not sure if it will become an annual event, I'll maybe think of something else to take on next year, but we'll wait and see.

"I just want to say a massive thanks to everyone who took part, everyone who donated, the volunteers who helped all the walkers at various points through the walk and for those that helped us out with travel to Glenbuck in the morning."

An Ayrshire Hospice spokesperson added: "Thank you so much to everyone who worked so hard to raise this phenomenal amount.

"All the walkers, the water stop volunteers, the businesses who donated money and resources and, of course, a massive thank you to the wonderful Craig Burns for organising, co-ordinating and walking".
