AN INSPIRATIONAL Kilwinning teen has launched his own business...only weeks after being given a devastating diagnosis.

Andrew MacGregor and his family were left shell-shocked in June when the results of an MRI scan showed the 15-year-old had three tumours and three cysts on his brain.

Ever since then, mum Beth Thompson says the family have had their lives "turned upside down" as brave Andrew battles the devastating illness.

Six days after his diagnosis on June 20, Andrew underwent a seven-hour surgery to remove most of the most serious tumour, though not all could be taken away because of its location.

He and his family are now facing a long-hard month as they await biopsy and genetic testing results.

The teen was looking forward to starting a summer job at a cafe in Saltcoats just before he got his diagnosis, though the shock of the news and the effect of the surgery meant he wasn't able to begin work.

But Andrew hasn't let that hold him down...and instead has launched his very own business selling sweets.

Andrew launched 'Madsweetz' earlier this month, and the business has gone from strength to strength in its first few weeks.

Beth explained: "He decided he could start a wee page selling bags of sweets. So with some money he got off family while he was in hospital, he ordered in what he needed to start it.

"Then he designed a logo, despite him being really weak.

"He really is an inspiration. We as a family couldn't be prouder of him."

Andrew's impressive array of sweet treats have proved a real hit, with his initial stock selling out only days after he launched.

Business has continued to boom since then, with rave reviews helping him secure an order of 100 bags just last week - all of which were later donated to charity.

Find out more about the business at the 'Madsweetz' Facebook page.

And an online fund-raising page has also been set up to support Andrew and his family through an exceptionally trying time.

Friend Nicola Orr launched the crowdfunder in a bid to raise enough money to allow the family to get away on holiday for some much-needed relaxation.

Nicola stepped in after the family had to cancel a planned trip to a theme park because of Andrew's surgery.

Nicola added: "We are looking for funds to help get the family a well needed holiday, to make memories with him and his siblings."
