AN AUCHINLECK man has been charged with crashing his van into a car, fence and lamp-post while in possession of a knife.

Liam Loy denies a series of motoring charges arising out of an alleged incident in Cumnock in December 2022.

The 27-year-old is alleged to have driven a van dangerously and at speed through Blackfaulds Road, Lamont Crescent, McTurk Road, Netherthird Road and Holmburn Road in Cumnock, and elsewhere, on December 30.

The Crown's indictment claims that with Loy at the wheel, the vehicle mounted the pavement, striking a parked car, a fence and a lamp post, causing them damage.

It's claimed that Loy was also in possession of a bladed or sharply pointed article, namely a knife, while in McTurk Road.

He faces a further charge of failing to stop and provide his and his vehicle’s details following the alleged collision.

Loy is also accused of failing to report the alleged incident to police “as soon as reasonably practicable”.

Mr Loy was not present when his case called at Ayr Sheriff Court last week, though he appeared in the courtroom just after matters had been dealt with.

Before he appeared in person, his solicitor, John Gallagher, told the court his client was pleading not guilty to all the charges against him.

Bail was continued and Mr Loy, of Dippol Crescent, Auchinleck, will return to court to face the allegations at a later date.

All accused persons reported in the Cumnock Chronicle are considered innocent unless or until they are later found, or admit to being, guilty.
