A man has appeared in court charged with attempted murder following an incident in Girvan  that left another man in hospital.

Martin Gallagher appeared in private at Ayr Sheriff Court on Friday, July 12.

The 38-year-old is charged with assault to severe injury, permanent disfigurement, impairment, danger to life and attempted murder.

It followed an incident in the Park Road area of Girvan in the early evening of Wednesday, July 10.

Mr Gallagher, whose general address is listed in court documents as South Ayrshire, faces a second charge of carrying a bladed or pointed weapon.

He made no plea or declaration during the private hearing on Friday.

He was committed for further examination and granted bail.

The Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal service say the date of his next appearance is yet to be confirmed.

We previously reported that a 34-year-old man had been taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital after suffering serious injuries in the incident on Wednesday, July 10, which is understood to have involved a blade.

Detectives urged anyone with any information to get in touch, but added that the injuries sustaned were not life-threatening.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “At around 5.45pm on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, police received a report of the serious assault of a 34-year-old man at a property in the Park Road area of Girvan.

“He was conveyed to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow with serious, but not life-threatening injuries.

“A 38-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and enquiries are ongoing.”
