Two people were taken to hospital following a midnight fire in Stewarton. 

Emergency services were called to Dunlop Street in the town in the early hours of Sunday morning to a fire in flats. 

Firefighters extinguished the blaze and enquiries are ongoing into the cause of the fire.

​A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Police were called to a report of a fire in flats on Dunlop Street, Stewarton, shortly after midnight on Sunday, 4 February, 2024.

“A man and a woman were taken by ambulance to Crosshouse Hospital in Kilmarnock for treatment.

“Scottish Fire and Rescue Service has extinguished the fire. The building was evacuated as a precaution, however residents have since returned.

“Officers remain at the scene and enquiries into the cause of the fire are continuing.”
