Police say a body has been found in the search for a missing man who was known to visit Ayrshire. 

Dane McGill, 53, had been missing from the Dalswinton area of Dumfries and Galloway since Friday, November 10. 

Cops investigating his disappearance widened their enquiries to include the Ayrshire area, which they said Mr McGill was known to have visited.

Police have now confirmed that the body of a man was found on Sunday in the Dalswinton area, with Dane McGill's family informed. 

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 3.45pm, on Sunday, January 28, the body of man was found in the Dalswinton area of Dumfries.

"Formal identification is yet to take place but the family of missing man Dane McGill has been informed.

"There do not appear to be any suspicious circumstances and a report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal."
