Entries are still open to help name Scotland's gritter fleet - with over 1,500 submissions lodged so far.

Amey South-West Trunk Roads are once again running a popular gritter-naming appeal for next winter.

The newly named gritters will join classics such as Sir Grits Hoy, Yes Sir, Ice Can Boogie, Skid Vicious, and Sweet Child O’ Brine.

Winners from last year’s competition and new additions to the fleet for the 2023/2024 winter season include Kevin Fridges, Stone Cold Steve Frostin, Taylor Drift and Sleeter Andre.

Gritter names can be submitted to Amey online from today via a page on swtrunkroads.scot.  

The latest Gritter names will be revealed on the @SWTRUNKROADS Facebook and Twitter channels and appear live on the Traffic Scotland Gritter Tracker.  

The gritters will be out in force across Ayrshire this week, with snow and ice warnings across the region.
