Additional late night trains are set to run throughout December between Glasgow Central and Kilmarnock.

Train operator ScotRail is adding more services and extra carriages in the run up to Christmas, allowing customers to take advantage of the festive period.

Additional late-night trains will also run on key routes over the next few weeks.

These will include a 12.12am departure from Glasgow Central to Kilmarnock, operating on Friday nights (actually Saturday mornings) on December 1, 8, 15 and 22.

Phil Campbell, ScotRail's customer operations director, said: “We know how important this time of year is for people, and we are delighted to be able to provide more carriages and extra services right through the Christmas period.

“Whether it’s shopping trips or nights out, customers can travel for less this Christmas with off-peak fares all day, every day.

“We’re encouraging everyone to plan ahead and check their journey on ScotRail app or website before they set off as there may be minor changes to some train times."

The last trains of the day will depart earlier than normal on both Christmas Eve and Hogmanay, with services winding down from around 7pm.

There will also be changes to train times over the Christmas and New Year period, including no trains at all on December 25 and January 1.
