North Ayrshire and Arran MP Patricia Gibson says the SNP will "continue to strive" for independence after attending the party's national conference.

The MP, and her husband Kenneth, were among hundreds of party members who attended the event in Aberdeen.

Despite falling numbers in national opinion polls, Mrs Gibson says she believes the party is still in a good place - and is united in its desire to see Scotland as an independent country.

She said: "I thoroughly enjoyed the SNP conference 2023 in Aberdeen. I met with a range of organisations and some old pals too.

"Delegates are in good heart, pledging always to put the needs and interests of Scotland first.

"Those who live in Scotland are best placed to take Scotland's future in our own hands to build the better, fairer, more prosperous country we all want to see, with the full range of powers of an independent country to do so.

"It is for that which we will continue to strive."
